WHEN IN DROUGHT | GARDEN WITH PLANTITUDE! Escondido & Surroundings Spring Garden Tour

WHEN IN DROUGHT | GARDEN WITH PLANTITUDE! Escondido & Surroundings Spring Garden Tour

Gratitude for our planet and plants with the right purpose or Attitude = Plantitude!

This year’s spring garden tour on March 29, of Escondido and its surroundings is more than just another pretty garden.

The San Diego Horticultural Society has teamed up with the Association of Professional Landscape Designers-San Diego District, to feature the work of some of the best local garden designers and members own gardens!

The theme for this year’s tour is When in Drought. Designers have created gardens to support all life -  plant life, soil life, insect life, wild life, and human life.

You’ll get a chance to tour eight diverse gardens that are larger than your average city lot with lush-looking, low-water plantings. Each garden has its own personal style and takes advantage of the unique characteristics of the site. This is an extraordinary opportunity to see some professionally designed, gorgeous gardens while learning new concepts to help any garden thrive! Outgoing SD Hort board member Ray Brooks’ amazing garden is on the tour, as well as member and designer Lisa Bellora’s home garden. Two of our past Horticulturists of the Year honorees, Nan Sterman and Greg Rubin have designed truly inspiring and achievable gardens that are on this tour.

Volunteer for the Garden Tour

By Karon De Leon, Volunteer Coordinator, San Diego Horticultural Society

  • In exchange for working a morning or afternoon shift, volunteers receive free entry to the gardens.

  • Volunteer shifts are half of the day, about 4 hours. Before or after your shift you can relax and enjoy yourself while touring the other gardens. Volunteers must be able to sit or stand for several hours and must be able to handle hills. Assignments include garden hosting, parking help, and checking-in tour goers.

  • Besides that great glow you have all day when you volunteer, you will have a good time and probably make some new friends. It's going to be a great day - work a little and have a lot of fun!

(There will be a Zoom orientation meeting at 9am the Saturday before the garden tour on March 22 that all volunteers will be invited to attend, which goes over all aspects of the day and duties.

For those who can’t attend the Zoom orientation live, it will be recorded and uploaded to our YouTube channel and will be available for viewing all week leading up to the garden tour. The YouTube link to the orientation recording will be emailed to everyone after the Zoom orientation meeting.)

It is easy to volunteer! Just send an email to Karon at volunteer@sdhort.org stating the following;

I’d like to volunteer for the 2025 Garden Tour!

Tell Karon which you prefer, a Morning or Afternoon shift?

Give your name, and please send Karon your cell phone number and she will respond via email forthwith!
