April Showers Bring May Flowers

What a relief that we’ve had some good rain in March.

The beauty of having a lovely yard is entertaining in the garden. Despite the rain there have been several garden events this year including world renowned floral designer, author, and television personality, René van Rems.

The Olivenhain Garden Club was thrilled to welcome René van Rems in March!

Members from three local garden clubs and floral design lovers were in attendance. René is considered the “Rock Star” of the floral industry and has traveled the world presenting design shows, design instruction, and exhibitions. As a floral designer, his work in induction product development (in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Colombia and Ecuador) is frequently visited for bouquet development for mass market flower growers. René has taught design in Seoul, Korea, and throughout the United States. Frequently René is on HGTV, PBS and featured in numerous home décor and floral publications. René is witty, informative and full of life.

On the day of the event, I had obtained a tent in case of rain, and it was a good thing because it rained all morning, but just enough to keep the flowers happy. As soon as the guests were leaving in the afternoon, it started pouring down with rain just as the last person left the event! Perfect timing.

The wisteria looks spectacular and here are links to previous articles that I’ve written that let you know how to prune it correctly so that you get this look. I just love wisteria, and I have planted several around the garden through the years.

In a couple of days, I have another group coming to the garden to paint. It’s fun to get out in our gardens and invite people in to enjoy the beauty of spring.

Enjoy April in your garden.

Happy gardening!
