Each year the San Diego Horticultural Society recognizes meritorious garden exhibits at the Fair with a variety of awards. This year's award winners were:
Don and Dorothy Walker Award for Most Outstanding Exhibit
San Diego Botanic Garden for its excellent overall design with balance, harmony, plant variety and texture (photo above).
Nomenclature Accuracy
San Diego Fern Society for excellent plant identification and unique variety of ferns
Best Expression of Garden Education
Organic Earth Care. Judges commented on the excellent signage and great research on Wizard of Oz book quotes.
Best Planted Container
Kym Kosaka. Judges enjoyed the rainbow arch and the excellent use of plant color and materials.
Bill Teague Memorial Award for the Most Creative Use of Plant Material
San Diego Bromeliad Society for its nice selection of unique bromeliads and good use of vertical and horizontal elements.
Best Native Plant Garden
California Native Plant Society for the best variety of native plants.
Best Youth Garden
California Native Plant Society. Judges commented on the thoughtfully planned out exhibit which had great design aspects. The Invasive plants in tumbleweed tornado was very clever and they enjoyed the outstanding use of native plants.
